Euronext at France Digitale Day 2018
The 2018 edition of France Digitale Day, the biggest European start-up ecosystem event, took place 25 September in Paris at the Musée des Art Forains.
France Digitale unites investors and start-ups by arranging conferences, speed-business meetings and by providing an ecosystem for entrepreneurs, investors and thinkers. Over 3000 entrepreneurs, 100 journalists and 200 investors attended the must-go event of the year of the European tech scene.
This year Euronext CEO Stéphane Boujnah actively contributed to that dialogue as a speaker for the session "Building a European unicorn is like climbing a mountain: from zero to IPO" alongside Adyen co-founder & CEO Pieter Van Der Does. Having built up the successful global payment company Adyen, taken it to the market in June 2018 (on Euronext Amsterdam) and being a climber himself, this was a round-table theme that Pieter Van Der Does could relate to. He reflected on the many similarities between climbing and building a company such as the need for a lot of upstream preparation.
During the conversation, moderated by Samantha Jérusalmy, Partner at Elaia, Stéphane Boujnah described how an IPO serves an accelerator to maturation for a company as discipline and a convincing equity story are fundamental requirements for the management, as well as being able to deliver on commitments.
Stéphane Boujnah also commented that: "When you're successful, there is a moment where you face a scary choice: Sell or go to an IPO. If you believe the worst is behind and the best is to come, there is no doubt going public is the best solution. The key driver is self-confidence. Once you have it, there is no limit to success."
