The Fintech100 global rankings, a joint research effort between KPMG and H2 Ventures, identify the Fintech companies which have in 2016 demonstrated excellence in capitalizing on ground-breaking technology and offering an innovative, high quality client experience. The annual report recognises the leading 50 ‘Established’ Fintechs across the globe, and the most noteworthy 50 ‘Emerging Stars’ with bold, disruptive and potentially industry-changing ideas.
The 2016 Fintech 100 highlights the acceleration of the disruption taking place in the global Financial Services industry, with more capital than ever being invested around the world in start-ups and established ventures that are creating new financial products and solutions. The total amount of Fintech funds raised in 2016 increased by 40%; the aggregate capital of the 50 leading ‘Established’ Fintechs increased by $14.6bn since the release of the 2015 edition.
The report illustrates a rapidly growing and increasingly diverse Fintech sector, with the creation of value in new sub-sectors such as Regtech and data analytics, and the continued growth in Insurtech and Blockchain.
In addition to this, greater geographic diversification exemplifies the Fintech industry’s globalization. Overall, 22 different countries are represented in the two categories of the Fintech100. The ‘Established’ 50 rankings includes 17 various countries, compared to 13 in 2015’s edition.
China now dominates the global rankings. 4 Chinese Fintechs - Ant Financial, Qudian, Lufax, ZhongAn – are featured in the Top 5, and 8 in the Top 50 of the ‘Established’ Fintechs.
